When talking about vacations, most people imagine sunbathing and sipping drinks on the beach, or enjoying some delicious food on the balcony of your five-star-hotel room. However, sometimes, the best kind of vacation is the one you can have right where you are – at home. In order for it to be truly relaxing, though, you might need to make a few adjustments to your home. So, if you’re thinking of having a small staycation soon, here’s how you can turn your home into a perfect “destination” for it.

Define your perfect staycation

First things first, you need to decide what kind of staycation you want to have. Do you want to focus on beauty and spend the staycation taking care of your skin, hair, nails, etc.? Do you want to organize a sleepover with your best friends, so you can hang out and catch up? Or, are you a geeky girl who’d rather spend that time reading books and binge-watching your favorite TV show? Again, the preparations for your vacation depend on the type of vacation you choose. Plus, it’s no fun sticking to your usual weekend routine – it’s supposed to be more relaxing than that. So, think about how you want to spend your days off, and go from there.

Get your home cleaned

Just because you won’t be staying in a luxury hotel, it doesn’t mean your home can’t look like one. One of the best ways to make it look more amazing than ever before is to get it professionally cleaned. After all, it’s a vacation, so you shouldn’t be doing any hard work – and since you’re not going anywhere, might as well use all that saved money to freshen up your home. Additionally, you’re bound to feel much better in your home after it’s thoroughly cleaned, and it can also be a great starting point for a small makeover in the near future.

Buy a souvenir

If you were on vacation in a foreign country, you’d probably get some kind of souvenir to remind you of it – and you can still do that. Buying souvenirs is not just about the destination of your vacation, but about the vacation itself. So, think about what kind of souvenir would fit your staycation. For example, you can buy a new book if your vacation is all about reading, or you can get a pair of fluffy slippers, if you choose to spend your staycation improving your looks. And every time that you put on those slippers or read your new book, you’d be reminded of this staycation.

Create the right atmosphere

In order for your home to be a perfect peaceful resort, you need to create the right atmosphere. One of the best ways to do that is by making it smell nice. So, for example, you can get some scented candles and an air purifier. This would make your home truly feel like a relaxing spa. Moreover, you can also get some string lights, for instance, and create a soothing ambiance with the lighting. Finally, you can play your favorite music and enjoy your staycation to the fullest.

Enjoy your meals

You can’t have a vacation without delicious meals, so spend some time planning them. If you happen to enjoy cooking, there’s probably a recipe that you’ve been wanting to try for a long time – and now’s your perfect chance, as you’ll have plenty of time. So, you can go wild at the grocery store and test some recipes. On the other hand, if you’re not that into cooking, feel free to splurge a bit on some delicious meals made by somebody else. You can visit some of your local restaurants, or you can order some delicious food and enjoy it at home.

Be a tourist

How well do you actually know your city? Regardless of whether you live in a huge city that is popular with tourists or a small and peaceful town, there are surely some streets you’ve never walked through before. So, why not become a tourist for a day and get to know your own city a bit better? You can sign up for sightseeing tours, or you can grab a map and do some exploring on your own. You never know what you might find once you step off the beaten path. Plus, it’s also a great way to find some of the above-mentioned souvenirs.

A perfect vacation is not necessarily the one that takes you far away from home. After all, your home is supposed to be the place where you feel the most comfortable, so naturally, it should also have the potential for being the best destination for a peaceful vacation. Therefore, think about the listed suggestions as well as your own preferences, spend some time planning your staycation, and it’s bound to be one you’ll remember for a long time after.
