Top Ten Summer Jams

Every summer an epic “summer song” comes out to party too through all those hot, fun days and nights of freedom. We’ve compiled a list of the top ten of these summer jams for you to listen to next weekend, next happy hour, next pre-game, next roadtrip, or whenever! We’re not saying these are the best songs out there, but they’re definitely catchy. It’s summer, so let any of your stress and worries be free and enjoy yourself!

  1. Calvin Harris- Summer

Was Calvin telling the future with this song? It was pretty much summer when he and Taylor Swift got together…if that’s the case, this isn’t ending well for them.

Corniest Line to Sing: “And we could be together baby/As long as skies are blue”

  1. Grease – Summer Nights

Oh, Danny and Sandy. How we all wanted your relationship back in the day. (Or was that just me? Despite everything, I still love you John Travolta! <3) This song is an epic “summer romance” song.

Corniest Line to Sing: “She swam by me she got a cramp/He ran by me got my suit damp” (Really all the lines, let’s be real here. But they’re just so good)

  1. LFO – Summer Girls

I remember while being in Abercrombie & Fitch, I thought that I was brilliant by having the idea that they should just replay this song on repeat all day as their song because of the epic shout-out throughout the chorus. Now I realize that might cause everyone to walk out of there more than the overwhelming smell of the cologne does. Yet, who can resist singing along if they were to here this song today?!

Corniest Line to Sing: This is even harder to choose than choosing one for “Summer Nights.” The lyrics just make no sense. It’s basically a bunch of things thrown together that rhyme. If only song writing were only so easy. But this is the line that always makes me laugh because of the extreme randomness: “There was a good man named Paul Revere/I feel much better baby when you’re near” (WTF)

  1. Don Henley – The Boys of Summer

Ok so this song is actually slightly creepy. Driving by her house and seeing her brown skin shining? Get over it, man, the relationship is over! She never liked you anyway…

Corniest Line to Sing: “A little voice inside my head said: ‘Don’t look back, you can never look back’”

  1. Bryan Adams – Summer of ‘69

Why not the summer of ’68? I think we all get it. Although the song isn’t overtly sexual itself, it is obviously about sex.

Corniest Line to Sing: “Man we were killin’ time/We were young and restless/We needed to unwind/I guess nothin’ can last forever, forever, no! yeah!”

  1. Funkstar De Luxe vs Bob Marley – Sun is Shining

Here’s a way to get dancing in a club to Bob Marley (who’d of thunk that’d happen?!) Summertime, the sun is shining, and we all need a little reggae.

Corniest Line to Sing: I hate to say any Bob Marley lyrics are corny, because Bob’s the man, and mostly the Danish house producer/remixer’s name of “Funkstar de Luxe” is really the corniest thing here. But I guess we’ll go with these lines: “When the morning gathers the rainbow/Want you to know I’m a rainbow too” (But you are a rainbow, Bob)

  1. Mungo Jerry – In the Summertime

That hair and those mutton chops, are you kidding me?! I’m not even mad, I’m impressed. The beat of this song just makes you happy, no matter what this guy was singing. Let’s all drink a pina colada out of a coconut and sing along.

Corniest Line to Sing: “If her daddy’s rich take her out for a meal/If her daddy’s poor just do what you feel”

  1. Belinda Carlisle – Summer Rain

Kissing in the rain is kinda sexy. It’s like The Notebook. Everyone wants that. Belinda knew what she was talking about. Summer rain is the best rain.

Corniest Line to Sing: “I remember the rain on our skin/And his kisses hotter than the/Santa Ana winds”

  1. Len – Steal My Sunshine

If those song sounds sort of disco-ish for a ‘90s hit, that’s because it is. The backdrop is based on “More, More, More” and also inspired by “Don’t You Want Me.”  This is another song that doesn’t seem to make much sense (how do you steal sunshine, anyway? Thanks a lot, CLOUDS!).

Corniest Line to Sing: “I was lying on the bench slide in the park across the street/L-a-t-e-r that week/
My sticky paws were in to making straws out of big fat slurpy treats/An incredible eight foot heap” (WUT)

  1. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince – Summertime

Oh, the good ol’ days when Will Smith was The Fresh Prince. I can’t have anything bad to say about this song for that reason. And that’s why it’s in our number one spot.  This song screams summertime (I mean, it is the title) and you can’t listen to this song without a smile on your face. I guarantee it.

Corniest Line to Sing: “Pop in my CD and let me run a rhyme/And put your car on cruise and lay back cause this is summertime”
