Because your phone helped you fall in love, it can bloody well help you get over them. Five ways to use AI and tech to cleanse, reroute, stretch, rebrand and reinvent your way through heartbreak.
THE AI BREAKUP: Part Three – The Stretch
Your post-breakup life should have plot.
Here’s a dangerous little thing that happens after a breakup.
You start making your life smaller.
You go to the same places. See the same people. Order the same food. Watch the same shows. Spend Friday night on the couch because, frankly, going out alone sounds horrific.
And slowly, without really noticing, your world becomes the size of the life you had with your ex.
Which is understandable. Relationships are comfortable. They give you a ready-made social life, a plus-one, a person to try things with. You don’t have to think too hard about what you’re doing because there is usually a “we” involved.
Then suddenly it’s just you.
And “just you” can feel a little terrifying.
But here’s the thing: you don’t need to find someone new to make your life interesting again.
You need to remember that you’re a person who can do interesting things.
Enter your new personal dare-devil: AI.
Not because AI knows you better than you know yourself. God forbid.
But because it has no idea what you’re supposed to do. It doesn’t know that you “don’t do things like that”. It doesn’t know you’ve always been “more of a stay-at-home person”.
And frankly, sometimes that’s exactly the friend you need.
1. Ask AI what you’d never normally do
Tell ChatGPT where you live, what you like, what you hate, how much money you’ve got to spend and how brave you’re feeling.
Then ask:
Based on what you know about me, give me 20 things I would probably never think to do on my own. They need to be genuinely interesting, not generic self-care suggestions. Rank them from “slightly outside my comfort zone” to “who the hell am I becoming?”
And then pick one.
The point isn’t to become a completely different person.
It’s to give yourself evidence that you’re capable of being one.
2. Turn your month into a confidence advent calendar
Remember advent calendars?
Except instead of chocolate, every day you get a tiny opportunity to surprise yourself.
Ask AI to build you one.
Create a 30-day confidence challenge for someone coming out of a breakup. Give me one small challenge per day that gets progressively more adventurous. Mix solo experiences, social challenges, physical activities and things that make me slightly uncomfortable. Nothing dangerous, expensive or deeply cringe.
Day 1 might be having coffee somewhere new.
Day 7 could be going to a movie alone.
Day 14 might be going to an event where you don’t know anyone.
Day 30?
Who knows.
That’s the fun bit.
3. Borrow some strangers
One of the hardest things about being newly single is the sudden disappearance of your automatic plus-one.
So manufacture one.
Platforms like Timeleft match people for dinners with strangers, while Meetup can help you find groups around everything from hiking to photography to obscure historical knitting societies.
The point isn’t necessarily to make lifelong friends.
It’s to get used to walking into a room without knowing exactly how the night is going to go.
Which is basically dating yourself, except you don’t have to kiss anyone.
Start collecting people who didn’t know you as half of a couple.
4. Learn something purely because you can
There is something deeply satisfying about becoming mysteriously good at something your ex had absolutely nothing to do with.
A language.
Pottery.
Tennis.
DJing.
Sourdough.
Pole dancing.
Taxidermy, if that’s your thing.
Use Duolingo for a language or an AI tutor to help you learn almost anything you’re curious about. Ask ChatGPT:
I have three hours a week and want to learn something that will make me feel like a more interesting person. Here are five things I’m curious about: [list]. Which should I choose and what would a 12-week beginner plan look like?
And here’s the important bit:
Don’t choose the thing that looks best on Instagram.
Choose the thing that makes you think, I wonder if I could actually do that.
5. Keep a record of your new life
When you’re coming out of a breakup, it’s surprisingly easy to forget the evidence that you’re doing okay.
So start keeping score.
Use a journaling app such as Day One, Rosebud or simply your Notes app to capture the tiny wins.
Or, if you’re using AI, dictate a voice note at the end of the week and ask it to turn it into a Confidence Log.
Try:
Turn this week’s voice note into a list of everything I did that was new, brave, uncomfortable, fun or outside my old routine. Don’t make it cheesy. I want factual evidence that my world is getting bigger.
Because one day you’ll look back and realise something important.
You didn’t suddenly wake up over your ex.
You just got busy becoming someone else.
THE STRETCH CHECKLIST
☐ Ask AI for 20 things you’d never normally do
☐ Turn the month into a confidence advent calendar
☐ Have dinner with strangers
☐ Learn something completely unrelated to your old life
☐ Keep a record of your new adventures
And remember:
You don’t have to become fearless.
You just have to become slightly less predictable.

It can be the best plot twist you’ve had in years.

FAQ
How do I get out of my comfort zone after a breakup?
Start small. Try a new restaurant, go somewhere alone, take a class or attend an event where you don’t know anyone. The goal isn’t to reinvent yourself overnight. It’s to give yourself regular experiences that prove your life can expand beyond your old relationship.
What are some things to do alone after a breakup?
Try a solo movie, exhibition, class, hike, dinner, weekend away or event. AI can also generate ideas based on your interests, location and budget, which is useful when your brain is currently drawing a complete blank.
Can AI help me find new hobbies?
Absolutely. Give it a list of things you’re curious about, how much time and money you have and what you’ve tried before. Ask it to suggest unexpected hobbies rather than obvious ones. You may discover something you never would have searched for yourself.
How do I meet new people after a breakup?
Put yourself in places where interaction happens naturally. Classes, clubs, volunteering, group activities, events and platforms such as Meetup or Timeleft can all help. You don’t need to walk into a room thinking I need to make new best friends. Just start having experiences with people who didn’t know you as part of your old relationship.
Should I start dating again after a breakup?
Only when you’re ready. Meeting new people doesn’t have to mean dating. One of the best things you can do after a breakup is rebuild a life that feels full before another romantic relationship enters it.
