In the wise words of Coco Chanel, “If you are sad, if you are heartbroken, make yourself up, dress up, add more lipstick and attack.” A breakup might leave you feeling rejected which is why you need to pull yourself together and get back out there. No, that doesn’t mean you jump on the next person you come across, it just means that you get back to being your fierce-self.

Breakups are the perfect moment to reinvent yourself. You’re itching to move forward and let go of the past. You want to regain your confidence and get to know yourself again.

A makeover helps with all this. What you wear reflects how you’re feeling on the inside, which is why you should start off by getting some new clothes.

New clothes post-breakup help you move on for several reasons:

1. You leave your past behind

You probably have memories attached to your clothes. That doesn’t mean you throw everything out of your closet, it just means that you have enough new ones in there to make fresh memories. Wearing clothes that you bought just to wow your partner can weigh on you.

2. Dress comfortably

Give yourself some time to just gather yourself. It’s natural to feel vulnerable. During this time, dress comfortably but NOT sloppily. Buy yourself some stretchable skinny jeans that fit comfortably and some over-sized sweatshirts. If you get the right ones, you’ll look great effortlessly and be comfy at the same time.

3. You get to wear clothes your ex didn’t like

We may not say it openly but we do dress accordingly to our partner’s likes and dislikes. There are surely going to be few clothing styles that you avoided because of your partner. Now that they are no longer in your life, you get to wear what YOU want. Want to show him that you’re moving on? Buy yourself clothes that he didn’t approve of.

If he wasn’t too fond of crop-tops, buy yourself a bunch, wear them with high-waisted shorts and some funky sneakers. Have fun with your outfits, it’ll make you feel better on the inside too.

4. Dress to attack

When you’ve moved past that low phase where you feel weak and vulnerable, it’s time to build yourself up again. Look at yourself from the gaze of potential partners (even though you shouldn’t be searching for one right away).

You need to exude confidence, show the world you head is back on right. Browse through fashion magazines and internet to see what’s trending. Think of the outfits that you feel will work for you. When you go shopping, have an idea on what pieces will work well together, how you’re going to accessorize and the shoes you’ll wear.

If you find yourself missing the things that you once experienced with your partner, like date nights or intimate nights in, you might even consider dildos.

Dressing well and looking good is always appreciated. The compliments you get in return will boost your confidence and help you pick yourself back up.

You need to focus on looking your best. Show the world that you’re doing just fine.
