This confident lady is one to keep her word. Yasmin Eleby from Houston, Texas, made herself a promise that if she hadn’t found “the one” by age 40, she’d go ahead and do the damn thing herself. And she did.
Although marrying yourself isn’t legal in Texas, Eleby married herself spiritually with the help of three ministers, one being her own sister. The wedding was announced in May of 2013 and the ceremony/party took place this month. A dual 40th birthday and wedding reception? Don’t we all wish we were invited?!
Yasmin plans to take an extended honeymoon to Cambodia, Laos, and Dubai. Our only question is, what song did she use to have her first dance? Was it Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”? Beyonce’s “Flawless”? Beyonce’s “XO”? (C’mon, this sort of thing deserves a Beyonce soundtrack). A single woman deserves attention too, and we’re glad that Eleby is treating herself for having a great relationship with the most important person in her life: herself!
As Carrie from Sex and the City says when she throws herself her own wedding shower in Season 6 Episode 9, A Woman’s Right to Shoes: “The fact is, sometimes it’s hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes.
