How Your Love Life Is Like Shopping

Disappointment, excitement, uncertainty… you never know what you’ll end up with when you go out for a day of shopping. Likewise, one’s love life is never one easy trip to the mall. In more ways than not, your love life is a lot like shopping. Here are seven ways:

You Must Decide You’re Ready For It
One does not suddenly find one’s self in the middle of the best shoe sale of the year, surrounded by prime pumps, wonderful wedges, and fine flats. No–this does not happen inadvertently. You find yourself in these ideal situations by deciding you are ready for a great new pair of shoes, locating where all the hot deals are, making proper preparations, and then taking action! Likewise, when it comes to your love life, you have to decide you’re ready for it and then take preparatory action. Sure, you may find a great catch when you weren’t expecting it… but if you’re not ready for it, it will surely walk on by.

You Know What You’re Looking For
It makes things a hell of a lot easier if you go into a store knowing exactly what you’re looking for. You won’t be tempted to waste your time on things that you really don’t need. Same goes for your love life. Sure, you may want to test the waters a bit here and there, but if you know you don’t want to deal with another type-A, suit-wearing, Scotch-drinking, law school-attending dude, why waste your time?

You Just Missed The Sale
You overhear your coworker raving about her new blazer she got at Nordstrom, and how great of a sale they’re having. All clearance marked down an additional 40 percent off? Um, yes. So, obviously, you show up ASAP (after a few days of catching up with Scandal, duh). The sale has passed; it was just over the weekend, the sales associate tells you. It’s Monday, you just missed it. Similarly, when you see a prime eligible bachelor, you have to jump on your opportunity! You don’t want to send him a text a week later, only to find him no longer as available.

It Looks Different Outside
Have you ever tried on a pretty peach dress in the fitting room, absolutely love it, only to later find it doesn’t look so pretty in the sunlight? In the same unfortunate manner, a guy can seem so great at the bar/party/coffeeshop/etc., but once you take him out enough and see him in a different late, you realize he’s not so great afterall. What’s the return policy, again?

You Find Great Things When You’re Least Expecting It
You may be searching through every rack, trying to find the perfect white blouse to go with the new work pants you just bought. Exhausted, you continue scouring through every relevant store’s clothing racks. Tiringly flipping through the hangers all bunched together (why are they all so inconveniently crammed together?). Alas, a few days later when you’re least expecting it, you find the absolute best white blouse you could have imagined.

It Looks Better On
So the skirt doesn’t look so hot on the hanger. Somehow, you get talked into trying it on. Give it a shot, your friends tell you. So you do, and you’re quite pleasantly surprised. Sometimes you just like just like things a lot better on you.

When You Know, You Know
You may really think this LBD is the one for you. You try it on, look in the mirror… but something just feels off. Let me tell you, when you know, you know. That is, you may really think this guy is all that you’ve been searching for. He’s got a great job, your family loves him, he’s nice and has great hair…. but if you’re not feeling like *this is it*, then that’s likely because it’s not. Don’t be bashful, you deserve to always have that feeling that you just scored on the perfect Burberry coat when it comes to your love life.
