This week’s Get Fabulous challenge is to go on a road trip. Don’t plan it, just do it! Remember Tolkin’s words – “Not all who wander are lost?” We think he’s onto something… And here’s why a road trip is exactly the kind of wandering you need right now.
Why this rocks:
- Be Free
There’s nothing like the freedom of the road. No schedules, no rules, no errands. You can live without a watch, don’t need to set alarms and certainly don’t need to check your agenda because, let’s face it, you don’t have one. You can go wherever you like and stop for as many beautiful landscape selfies and freshly squeezed pomegranate juices (and respective pee-breaks) as you like. It’s just you, your friends and the road. The road doesn’t question your choices. You are free, so listen to your gut! Our gut so rarely disappoints us and yet we don’t listen to it nearly enough. Stop where you want, eat what you want, stay where you want. No need to argue about which exit to take and where to fuel to save a dollar. In fact, there’s no need to overthink anything, let your gut be your guide!
- Embrace The Random
One of the best things of any roadie is the random people you’ll meet, places you’ll eat and weird little things in weird little shops you’ll find along the way. The “Greenfields Long Jump 1987” sweatshirt, I’ll take it. The random old man giving out love advice at his local watering hole, I’m all ears. The strange homebrew whisky with locally grown honey, fill me up! Say yes to all the randomness that comes your way and see what happens.
- Daydream it away
The time has finally come to let your spirit wander. Reconnect with your childhood dream, dream up the perfect love affair in your head or picture the perfect revenge (+ what you’ll wear, such a key component to a proper revenge). Whatever it is you’ve never had time to properly daydream about, you have it now! For best results, take some fantastical outfits on your roadie and adopt entirely new personas every day!
- Sing it out
Shake it off with Taylor, let it go with Elsa or go old school and be stronger with Britney. Find your jam, get on maximum volume and sing your heart out. “Singing freely releases what’s locked up in your body”, says Diane Austin, adjunct associate professor of music therapy at New York University on Oprah’s health blog. And Oprah is Queen. What she says goes.
Bonus Challenge: Invite a trucker for coffee at a gas station and understand his view on the meaning of life (instagram his wisdom, obviously).
Just Remember…While a flat tire, running out of cash and getting lost in the middle of the night are certainly scary scenarios, the adventure, freedom and independence awaiting you are absolutely worth the price. Besides, who can resist an independent woman changing a tire in hot pants? No one. Exactly. What are you waiting for?
