Get Creative & Get Over It

The quintessential shoebox under the bed of all things from lovers past has evolved over the years, especially coming into this digital age. Sometimes it feels hard to let go of love letters, cards, and photographs from a past relationship, even when starting anew with someone else. With today’s digital cameras and even worse, cell phone cameras, there are more and more pictures in even more places to store away these images and inevitably stumble upon an ex.

So the question remains: how do we let go of these pictures from our past besides clicking and hitting the simple “delete” button? So quick, yet so permanent.

Well, one man named Matthew Swarts has found a way to erase, pretty literally, his ex-girlfriend and let his newer, current girlfriend take precedence in his life (and his photographs). In his new pieces titled

Beth and The Alternatives, Swarts uses Photoshop to “erase” his ex from old photographs she posed in, and then lets his new girlfriend come through in different mediums in other photographs. To top it all off, Swarts pieces will be displayed at the Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles from March 7 through April 18. Wouldn’t it be nice to gather artistic attention from your breakup (hello, Adele). Now if that isn’t a way to get over an ex, I’m not sure what is.
