Coffee With Modern Day Girlfriend Founder Arianna Thomopoulos

I recently met Arianna Thomopoulos at an event about kindness in business. She came up to me after I spoke and we immediately hit it off and started dreaming up cool ways to work together. She’s the indomitable force behind Modern Day Girlfriend – a sassy, smart and real magazine for real women.  It’s free of spin and pretense and completely refreshing and inspiring at the same time. Imagine a good friend telling it like it is – we’ve all got time for that! What this space!!

What do you do and why do you do it?

I founded the Modern Day Girlfriend, a brand that celebrates being perfect imperfect because I wanted women to know they are not alone, from nightmare dates to skipping the gym for three weeks or even having a spoonful of Nutella for dinner, I got you! I share insights with grace, intelligence, love and of course humor because we found that there wasn’t a place to talk openly, freely and truthfully about what it’s like to date, marry, love in today’s generation. I wanted people to feel like they are talking to their friends and learn things along the way. I truly love what I do.

What’s the best gift you ever got?

I have received many gifts within my years of dating, which will all be up shortly on your site but I do have to say that the best gift I ever received was not something of material wealth it was the moments spent with my significant other. The memories we created were and are the best gifts I have received.

What’s the worst gift you ever got?

I am not a charm person and one of my ex boyfriend’s got me a charm bracelet for an early on in our relationships, so three years later every anniversary he thought he got off scot free with getting me a new charm to put on it. THAT WAS SHUT DOWN FAST!

What’s you advice for all things love, sex and dating?

To know who you truly are first and love everything about it!

Tell us about your first heartbreak…

I don’t know if it is me but I feel when I have fallen in love with someone no matter if it was my first love or my last relationship, each heartbreak feels like the first. It feels to me my heart breaks in different ways each time because of the reality of what the relationship could, would or had been.

Tell us about a time you Bounced Back better than ever:

As I have grown older I think it has actually been easier for me to bounce back from a broken heart. I have learned to deal and prioritize my feelings. Don’t get me wrong, I spent a weekend or two crying in bed with a stuffed animal and a jar of Nutella, but with every break up, I realized that for me God has a reason why it is not working out with anyone right now.. Maybe because I am supposed to be the “dog lady” with 100 dogs and no man or the man I am supposed to marry his going through his own heart ache to be perfect for me as I him.
