Chats With ‘Romance Enthusiast’ David Cruz

David and I met a few years ago when he asked me to come on his radio show Finding Cupid as a guest. Even over the phone we hit it off and became fast friends as soon as we met for a drink. David’s a lover of love. He’s on a mission to help everyone find love. He spreads his mission far and wide; on the airwaves with Finding Cupid, on TV with the Millionaire Matchmaker, on the world wide web with his Finding Cupid blog… and any other place you can think of! Here’s what David had to say about all things love, dating and bouncing back.
What do you do and why do you do it?
I am the Founder and Creative Director of Finding-Cupid.com, a website dedicated to all things love. I am also known for being a matchmaker on Bravo TV’s, The Millionaire Matchmaker. I like to call myself a “Romance Enthusiast” because I love all things “Love!” I do all these things because I believe that people need inspiration when it comes to love and romance. I feel like we celebrate break-up’s in the media way too much and it’s about time that we celebrate the simplicity of what true romance is about. That’s my mission, just to inspire.
What’s the best gift you ever got?
I love ANY handmade gift. It really shows the time and effort someone put into it. My boyfriend and I are really good at trying to outdo each other in this department. My favorite gift he ever gave me was a hand made card that had a laser cut image of a tree that he carved our initials into when we first started dating. I mean…. that’s pretty impressive.
What’s the worst gift you ever got?
The worst gift I ever got was from a guy I had gone on a few dates with, it was just after Valentine’s Day. He went to the drug store and bought out the clearance section of the Vday section and gave it to me on date. I love a cute gesture, but…. it was too soon and kinda weird.
What’s you advice for all things love, sex and dating?
Love: You know when you are in Love when you meet someone who will make a good partner. Someone who will lift you up, make you laugh and push you to be a better person.
Sex: Don’t give it away to validate yourself or because you think someone will want to be in a relationship with you.
Dating: Go for coffee on the first date, not dinner or drinks.
What’s your go to pick me up?
Two Things: Watching Pretty Woman or listening to OLD SCHOOL love songs from the 90’s and early 2000’s! Like I am talking Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, 98 Degrees and N*Sync! Lol
Tell us about your first heartbreak…
My first real heartbreak, I will never forget because of how much it tore me apart. I was dating this guy for 4 years and ended things in order to grow up. It was the kind of break up that made me cry while driving, cry if I heard a sad song and on made me withdraw from life for a while. It was around that time that I started working out and got a trainer and funneled my sadness into rebuilding my mental and physical health. For two years I worked out like a BEAST! It was the best shape I was in- EVER! haha. I learned a lot from that break-up, it gave me more insight to who I was as a person. Most importantly, I learned that when one door closes another one opens.
Tell us about a time you Bounced Back better than ever
When I moved to LA, I just broke up with the guy I was dating. I put everything in storage and moved without even thinking about anything. A friend of mine convinced me to “start a new chapter” and just leave it all behind, and I did. It was that move that changed my life forever. My website took off, my blog got published, I got put on TV and I met my now fiance.
The best “Bounce Back” of my life!
