This week’s question is all about 50 shades of concealer and foundation. We’ve all seen it go hideously wrong – a few too many times to count – here’s how to get it right everytime!
The Question: How do you figure out what your shade of concealer or foundation should be?
Angelique’s Answer: The best way to test foundation is from your jawline down to your neck. Many of us have redness in our faces and discoloration, so if you match just your face a lot of times the foundation color is not right– it may be too pink or light, etc. I like to test it in natural light, near a window and I just make a line from my jaw down to my neck, if the color is too light I will go a shade darker and if it is too dark vice versa. It is important to test it on your skin because a lot of times our eyes play tricks on us. Also, avoid trying to test on your hand, your hand is not the same color as your face. As for concealer, test where you need it. For example many of us use it under our eyes or around our nose, but those areas are not the same color. You may actually need two (or even three) different colors to match appropriately. I love palettes that have a variety of colors like the cream foundation from Eve Pearl or the Makeup Forever concealers and color correctors. Having a palette of different colors gives you versatility as well, so you can change your color per season. For example in the summer when your skin gets darker. It’s also great to get samples from stores like Sephora so you can try the product out first before making a commitment! The biggest thing to do is to play around with different colors and products so you become familiar with them, always remember less is more!
