Last week, a short video clip from feminist and comedian extraordinaire Amy Schumer’s show “Inside Amy Schumer” was released from Comedy Central and made available on Youtube for your viewing pleasure. The 3-minute long masterpiece seems to be a parody, or at very least, a mockery of the popular bubblegum boy band tradition of singing about the perfection in the absence of make-up on a woman (they’re not usually this direct, but it is not hard to come to this conclusion). The video titled “Girl, You Don’t Need Makeup” is as catchy as it is relatable, informational, and all-around cheeky. Though she is not the first in a long line of women to encourage being natural and doing what is right for you (think Frida Khalo, Coco Chanel, and most recently Beyonce), her video is fresh, modern, and to the point. It is a tribute to women (and those men that enjoy makeup, too- we see you!) everywhere that you are beautiful however you like it- fresh faced or a makeup rockin’ pro. Beauty standards? Never heard of them. For a catchy tune or just a reminder to own your awesome- you can watch the video here.
