Falling in love feels amazing. Don’t make someone else your entire reason for being alive, no matter how the butterflies feel.
It feels amazing, too, when you fall in love with a great meal, hanging out with a new friend and sleeping in on Sundays. Yes, it’s about loving yourself first and unconditionally—Glorious bed hair and all.
1. You + Bed = Love. Pull the covers over your head. Grab those four pillows you absolutely need. Rejoice: No one is sawing down a forest with a nose for a chainsaw. Your bed snuggles better than anyone you know. You need space to be yourself, whether you’re sleeping or hiding.
2. No one disses Mr. Binky. Well, not exactly everyone knows about Mr. Binky, the stuffed rabbit you’ve had since you were three, but your memories are important to you. The person who gave you Mr. Binky is important to who you are today, and you honor that.
- Your pet owns you, and you’re okay with that. Even science says pet owners are technically sexier people and have the healthiest relationships. Your dog loves long walks on the beach, just like a significant other, but advises against your Converses by chewing on them. Pets keep their owners in check.4. Your relationship with pizza is so cheesy that friends are asking when you’re getting married. Pizza [or insert food of choice here] is not just a guilty-pleasure food. Pizza=Life. Though, sometimes you do chill with Netflix. Life is about enjoying all five senses, especially taste.
- When your show is on, you don’t have eyes for “anyone” else. Whether it’s lawyers, werewolves or reality TV: You know it’s okay let yourself be a zombie for a while.
- Eyeliner is the glamour spell you use as a witch-zombie to convince people you’re alive. (Well, that and coffee.) It’s really amusing and only you really get the inside joke.
Putting on makeup: It’s a ritual of self-adornment and self-love. It’s the pause before big moments begin, and a little eyeliner opens your eyes more to it all.
7. You OWN the Goddess Pose. Yes, it’s a combination that looks like you’re squatting and about to be arrested by the police. Yet, you can include jazz hands! You’ve got a killer daily discipline down. You’re in charge of your life and know that a healthy body equals a healthy perspective.
8. You’re always on time to the things that are important to you. You’re not waiting around for someone who’s busy all the time. You’re present to support and pursue your interests, whether it’s watching a new “childish” Disney animation or attending an art exhibition.
9. You and your friends are thick as thieves. You’ve got inside jokes and shenanigans that may or may not involve alcohol and Sharpie markers. Your friends are like family. Doing things without them would be impossible because they’ve loved you at your best and worst.
10. Naked Thursdays are holy in your household. Okay, not everyone is up for Naked Thursdays, but it’s the best thing about having your own place or roommates who don’t care. You have the cojones to walk around naked at home and in life… By being yourself, that is.
11. You know how to ask for directions. You stop at gas stations when your GPS tells you to drive off a cliff. When you don’t know what to do, you ask for help from your friends and family. It’s important to have more than one person to rely on.
12. You devour books in one sitting. You take feeding your brain very seriously. Characters are like real people, too, with stories that inspire your own, especially when they live in books that are so hard to put down.
13. You keep writing your novel, even when it feels like you won’t ever finish it. Passion fuels life. Your dedication to a craft like that is an expression of your soul.
14. Only you know how your schedule works best for your life. Keep it all in your head or use an app. It’s not your responsibility to remind your significant other when plans are 24/7. You get that “Time is of the essence,” but only if it’s important to those involved.
15 You trust in chocolate and coffee to get you through more than the day. You know the secrets of living a long life are dark chocolate and coffee. Conquest is part of your retirement plan.
While being in a romantic relationship can enhance your well being, it’s not integral to living a full and happy life. It’s important to remember that there’s more to life—like Netflix and chill with pizza, shenanigans with friends and long shoeless walks on the beach with the dog.
